FENERI – National Federation of International Relations Students
The challenge
In 2011, FENERI faced the challenge of remaining relevant in the face of the rapid expansion of International Relations courses in Brazil, with little interaction among students, a lack of representation in national debates on career and foreign policy, and a weakened institutional identity.
The moment demanded organization, strategy, and a vision for the future : it was necessary to strengthen the student base, generate engagement at the national level, and reposition FENERI as the legitimate voice of Brazilian internationalist youth.
What we did
During his tenure as president of FENERI (2011–2012) , Salomão led a robust process of articulation, internationalization, and institutional repositioning of the federation. Among the milestones of his administration:
🌍 1. Implementation of the “New Leaders for Latin America” program – Buenos Aires (2012)
Creation and coordination of an international program that took 25 Brazilian International Relations students to Buenos Aires.
Morning Spanish classes for internationalists at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA)
Technical visits to national and international organizations , such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina and the Fundación Democracia Global.
Organization of a cultural fair about Brazil , held in the UBA hall, aimed at Argentine students from the Language Center.
The program generated a financial surplus, which allowed the management to leave FENERI with a positive cash flow and resources for the next administration.
🌀 FENERI's institutional repositioning
Led the federation's rebranding project , including the creation of a new visual identity, logo, and institutional website.
Updating public discourse, focusing on regional plurality, professionalizing student activism, and fostering Latin American collaboration.
Expanding FENERI's dialogue with universities, international organizations, and youth networks.
🤝 Strengthening national coordination
Encouraging the creation of new state representations and regional centers of FENERI.
Promoting discussions about the future of international relations careers in Brazil.
Representation of Brazilian youth in forums and meetings in Latin America.
Impacts generated
Reconsolidation of FENERI as an active and respected voice in the academic and political arena.
Pioneering internationalization of student activities, with immersion in topics of foreign policy and regional integration.
Creating a financial and institutional legacy for future administrations.
